Laker Alum Supporting Hurricane Dog Reunions

CLAS Alumna Alana Gillhespy DVM has followed her passion to work at Mackenzie’s Animal Sanctuary, one of the largest no-kill shelters in the country, right here in Michigan.  She is providing a critical service for dogs caught up in the recent hurricane.

On Friday, September 15, Mackenzie’s took in nine dogs.  As Alana explains, “These pups were all in shelters in Louisiana prior to the hurricanes, and were transported to Michigan to continue to make room for the displaced dogs from the hurricane.  This raises the probability that the displaced dogs will be able to be reunited with their families.”

She will be part of the efforts to ready these dogs for new forever homes.  She describes the process, “The dogs were took in are all being quarantined for a couple weeks while receiving medical care.  Once we are able to give these guys a clean bill of health, they will be up for adoption!  Of the nine pups we received, six are young puppies and the other three are adolescents.  They are all super sweet and will make wonderful companions to their future adoptive families.”

This is a Laker story that you may want to be part of.
