Languages Take Lansing Conference by Storm

Grand Valley Modern Languages and Literature faculty attended the Michigan World Languages Association annual conference in Lansing on October 12-13, 2017. Mike Vrooman (Spanish) is vice-president of the organization. Gisella Licari (Italian) presented on bridging cultural difference through student projects.  Janel Pettes-Guikema (French) presented on the Reacting to the Past pedagogy and social justice in foreign language education. They are pictured here with three former students who are now foreign language instructors. Amanda Leigh, who co-presented with Dr. Pettes-Guikema, teaches French at Grand River Preparatory Academy, Kristin Schumacher-Smith teaches Spanish at Muskegon Heights Academy, and Nicole (Willekes) Verhoef teaches Spanish at Coopersville Middle School.
