1. Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence

Dwayne Tunstall of the Department of Philosophy will become Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence in June 2022.  Dwayne comes to the position with a deep scholarly background in diversity and inclusion, experience in student support programs, and a clear passion for the work.  He was chosen from an excellent field of well-qualified candidates.  The College welcomes Dwayne to his new post and thanks all who participated in the search.

2. Updates from AD for Finance Michelle McCloud

Updated Technology Policy

The Technology Supply Office has updated their policy to allow the purchase of flash drives from the Laker Store using your GVSU P-Card, without pre-approval. In addition, certain computer cables can now be ordered from the approved vendor Cables 2 Go. See the policy here: https://www.gvsu.edu/it/technology-supply-office-160.htm. Questions can be directed to the IT Technology Supply Office.

Concur Expense Reports that Include Alcohol Expenses

All expense reports that include alcohol should be forwarded to AD Michelle McCloud in Concur for approval. Pre-approval is required for unit events where alcohol will be served. Please ensure that a pre-approval request has been submitted to the CLAS Dean’s Office and subsequently approved prior to the event. The approval email should be attached to the Concur expense report along with the receipt. Alcohol expenses should be itemized separately on the expense report and a designated fund FOAP should be provided in Concur. Expense reports for things such as recruitment dinners or other meals that include alcohol should also be itemized and submitted to AD McCloud for approval in Concur.

3. Important Change to CLAS Final Grade Reporting Deadline

Starting this semester, Fall 2021, the College is making a change to the deadline for final grades. All faculty must report their final grades by 11:59 p.m., Monday, December 20. This will allow the deans office to use the time available on Tuesday morning, December 21, to address any missing grade reports and meet the university deadline of 12 p.m. noon. This notice gives faculty time to adjust their grading timelines to meet the new deadline. All CLAS departments/units are asked to adhere to this new deadline rather than instituting one of their own. Any questions should be directed to AD Betty Schaner.

Tip

Grading Completion in Banner

Faculty can find out if student grades (mid-term and final grades) have been entered into Banner without having to wait to receive the “missing grades report” from the Dean’s Office.

  • Go to Banner-GVSU Faculty/Staff Additional Student Info

  • Select Grade Report

  • Choose Term

  • Enter Faculty G#

This will bring up all classes being taught by this professor, then select the course.  All registered students will be displayed. The Midterm Grade Roster Report lists any students still needing grades to be entered.

Reminder

Low Enrolled Section Management

Any course expected to be canceled for low enrollment, and any greyed-out course that will not be opened, should be cancelled before December 1.  By that date we need to have our total number of LE sections down to a threshold set by the Provost’s office. Earlier cancellations are helpful.  Questions may be directed to George McBane.
