1. Strategic Visioning (and Teaching Roundtables)

Units continue to discuss the CLAS draft visioning plan and to provide the Dean’s Office with feedback. It has been our tradition for more than 10 years to gather the Monday before Thanksgiving to discuss ideas and best practices at the annual Teaching Roundtables. This year, the Teaching Roundtables will be moved to the Winter Semester so that we can meet and talk about ideas related to curriculum, inclusive pedagogy, and student success that we identify as priorities for our vision.

2. You Could be a Clinician

CLAS organizes the once-a-term Repair Clinic with our partner Housing. Over the last five years, we have provided 412 services completely free to GVSU students. We have a roster of volunteers who receive notice of upcoming clinics and can participate when they like. While many who volunteer have some advising, sewing, knitting, gluing, or plier-wielding skills, some serve as greeters who quickly catch on to how we triage. With a few recent retirements, we find we could use some more greeters in our ranks and, of course, those with applicable skills are always welcome, too. The next clinic will be in February, but interested faculty and staff can sign up anytime on the Repair Clinic webpage. After four clinics, volunteers earn the coveted Big Blue Button. N.B. Volunteers must be faculty or staff of GVSU.

3. Advising Tips: Withdrawal Deadline and Advising Materials

The deadline date for students to withdraw from a Fall 2021 is Friday, October 29 at 5:00 p.m. Withdrawals after this date require significant documentation and justification. The Late Drop process outlines the steps students would need to take. These are approved only in truly extenuating circumstances.

Students should carefully consider multiple items before making the decision to drop a class. The Decision Tree helps walk students through this process. Always recommend that students visit the Financial Aid Office prior to dropping a course.
