2. Midterm Grading Reminder – From Assistant Dean Betty Schaner

Midterm evaluations are the week of March 1 and midterm grades must be reported in the Banner grading system before 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 9. Midterm grades are required for all first-year students, including ALL new transfer students who started Fall 2020 and Winter 2021, and for undergraduate students classified as less than good standing.

Unit Heads are to notify Betty Schaner and Mona Silva of the designees for routing grading emails. In preparation for grading, please make sure your unit has current and accurate contact information for all faculty – tenured, tenure-track, affiliate, visitor and adjunct – in case outreach is needed for missing grades.

Unit Heads and New Faculty Mentors, please check with new faculty members, including affiliate, visitor, and adjunct, to confirm they understand the grade submission process. With the addition of all new transfer students, faculty teaching upper level courses should be aware that mid-term grades may be required for more students than in the past.

3. Addressing academic misconduct

Addressing academic misconduct is one of the many responsibilities of faculty and staff at GVSU. These conversations with students can be difficult and it is important that faculty and staff follow the procedures as outline in the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities. This session is designed to equip faculty and staff with the tools needed to address academic misconduct and to review the collaborative partnership with OSSCR as they do so.

This workshop is offered Friday, March 5, 1 – 2 p.m. and Thursday April 8, 2 – 3 p.m.

Faculty and Staff registration.

Director, Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution

4. Updates at OURS and in the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships

In an effort to deliver high quality advising and support to students, while maintaining cost and structural efficiency, the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) and the Frederik Meijer Office of Fellowships (FMoF) will be collocated in a new physical space named the Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement (CUSE). CUSE provides a physical location where comprehensive support can be provided to all students interested in research and prestigious national scholarships. The Center will be located in 230LIB where OURS is now housed. Dr. Susan Mendoza serves as Director of Undergraduate Scholar Engagement and provides leadership and direction to CUSE, as well as the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship.  Dr. Brenda Tooley provides leadership for the Frederik Meijer Fellowship Office and is the Associate Director of Undergraduate Scholar Engagement.

6. Would you like to have your say on GV’s mass texting and emailing project?

Monica Johnstone has provided CLAS college office input to the project manager working toward the future of mass texting and emailing at GVSU.  If your unit contacts your students or external constituencies by mass texting or emailing, you may want to make your specific needs known to the project manager.  If you would like to have that opportunity, email [email protected] and Monica will assemble a list of CLAS units with interest in providing the project manager with an understanding of your current use and desired future use of mass texting and emailing.
