Topics for Staff Roundtables 2018

Roundtable 1

Facilitators: Bob Hendersen, Cindy Laug, Diane Laughlin

Making the ePDP (or the Yearly Review Process) Productive for You

This roundtable, led by two experienced staff members and a veteran unit head, will consider how the yearly review process can be a useful and rewarding experience. What are the most effective ways to approach this review process? What are strategies for communicating with supervisors? What is the relationship between professional development opportunities and yearly reviews? How can you best advocate for yourself during the review process? These and other questions will be the focus of discussion.

Roundtable 2

Facilitator: Anne Zalud

Student Employment

Anne Zalud, Assistant Director of Student Employment, will review employment regulations and lead a discussion of best practices for interacting with student workers. Staff who supervise student workers often find themselves wearing two hats. On the one hand, they play an important support role for students. They can be mentors and informal advisors, and they contribute to student well-being and integration at Grand Valley. On the other hand, they are in a position of authority, and they are responsible for training and supervising student workers. This roundtable will consider how staff can do justice to both roles.

Roundtable 3

Facilitator: Michelle McCloud

Hands-On Budget

This Q & A session with Michelle McCloud, Assistant Dean for Finance will focus on budget management and university processes. What have you always wanted to learn more about the budget process and fiscal management? Learn something new and become more informed about the management tools available in the college and university-wide.
