Please send GVSU an official transcript from each college/university attended well in advance of your Transfer Advising and Registration session. If you are currently in progress with coursework be sure to send an updated official transcript at the end of each semester. Failure to send an updated transcript at the end of each semester could limit your ability to register for future classes.

Initial math placement at GVSU is determined by ACT/SAT scores and/or transfer equivalent math coursework. The math requirement for each student will vary based on the students selected major and remaining General Education requirements. Students may elect to take the free, online math placement exam prior to attending their Transfer Advising and Registration session. If you are unsure if you need more math, check with your advisor before taking the exam.
Michigan Community Colleges only...
The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) is honored at Grand Valley State University (GVSU). A student officially awarded the MTA stamp on their Michigan community college transcript will earn credit for all of the Foundation course requirements and 1 SWS within the General Education program. If you are working to complete the MTA please verify your anticipated semester of completion prior to attending your Transfer Advising and Registration session.
It is the students responsibility to have the official stamp posted on their transcript. GVSU will not recognize the MTA without the proper credential noted on the official transcript. If you are unsure of how this process works please contact your community college for further assistance.
If you have taken an AP exam and/or Credit by Exam and would like the score to be reviewed for credit, please have your official score report sent to GVSU. We do not accept scores from the transcripts of other institutions, including high schools.
The link below will take you to a library of "How To" videos. We encourage you to review the "Course Registration" video prior to your upcoming transfer registration session. Keep in mind that while you can search for classes you will not be able to add classes prior to your transfer registration session.
