University-Level Committees

University Academic Senate (one former COE and one former CCPS seat available)
The University Academic Senate (UAS) is the highest faculty governance body. It has the authority to deal with any academic issue or faculty concern. It makes recommendations to the Provost and/or President regarding such matters as curriculum, the academic organization of the university, faculty personnel policy, the budget, and other issues considered relevant to academic affairs.
Meeting Frequency: Shall meet at least once in the Fall and the Winter semesters, respectively, and at additional times if a petition is signed by one-fourth of its membership, or at the call of the ECS. 
Full Term: 3 years

Academic Policies and Standards Committee (one former COE and one former CCPS seat available)
The responsibilities of the Academic Policies and Standards Committee (APSC) include studying, reviewing, and making pertinent recommendations on academic policies and procedures. Its duties include composing policies relevant to admission, retention and dismissal, repeat grades, withdrawal, the academic calendar, and library privileges.
Meeting Frequency: Meets one Thursday per month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. 
Full Term: 2 years

Academic Technology Advisory Committee (one former COE seat available)
The Academic Technology Advisory Committee supports the academic mission of the University in its use of technologies and services impacting teaching, learning, research and scholarship.
Meeting Frequency: Twice each fall and winter semester.
Full Term: 3 years

Affiliate Faculty Advisory Committee (one former CCPS regular faculty seat available)
The role of this Advisory Committee is to represent the needs and perspectives of all University Affiliate Faculty and to provide recommendations to University bodies on matters which may impact Affiliate faculty responsibilities, with the goal of providing an optimal teaching and learning environment as well as increased advocacy, visibility, retention, and development for all Affiliate faculty. 
Meeting Frequency: Meets 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. once a month during the academic year.
Full Term: 3 years

Campus Life (one former COE and one former CCPS seat available)
An advisory body to the Vice Provost/Dean of Students regarding strategic planning of: co-curricular learning opportunities (i.e., educational, social, recreational, etc.) to actively engage students in the life of the university; support services that assist students to be successful in their academic and personal lives; and management of various environments at the university (e.g. living centers, apartments, dining areas, Kirkhof Center, Recreation Center, etc.).
Meeting Frequency: Twice each fall and winter semester held on the first Monday in October, December, February and April.
Full Term: 3 years

Faculty Grievance Panel (one former CCPS seat available)
The Faculty Grievance Committee will function to review and make recommendations about a grievance. Its function is normally to determine that the prior decisions in the case before it have been arrived at in accordance with the established procedures and with the educational and professional objectives of the University but may also include a substantive re-examination of the case.
Meeting Frequency: Only meets when needed to address a grievance.
Full Term: 3 years

Faculty Personnel Policy Committee (one former COE seat available and must be a tenured faculty member)
Established in April 1986, this committee has the responsibility to review faculty personnel policy matters that extend beyond the colleges, and make appropriate recommendations to the Executive Committee of the Senate (ECS). College representatives must be tenured.
Meeting Frequency: Meets twice a month on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.  
Full Term: 3 year

Faculty Salary and Budget Committee (one former COE seat available)
This committee is a standing subcommittee of the University Academic Senate. Established in April 1983, the FSBC works to provide an informed understanding of the financial health of the university. The FSBC advocates for the faculty on all matters with significant budgetary implications with focused attention on new programs, salaries and healthcare benefits. 
Meeting Frequency: Meets twice a month on Fridays from 12:00 p.m. -1:30 p.m. 
Full Term: 3 year

Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center (FTLC) Advisory Committee (one former COE seat available)
The role of the Advisory Committee is to provide advice on policy, direction and performance of the Pew FTLC.
Meeting Frequency: Meets 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. one Monday per month during the academic year.
Full Term: 3 years

General Education Committee (GEC) (one former COE and one former CCPS seat available)
The GEC provides guidance and support to the university community regarding the aims, philosophy, achievements, and problems of the General Education Program.
Meeting Frequency: Meets 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Mondays during the academic year.
Full Term: 3 years

Graduate Council (two former COE seats available)
The Graduate Council is a faculty-led governance standing committee of the University Academic Senate. It was established in the 2004-05 academic year to promote excellence in graduate education by creating policies and reviewing curriculum that ensure consistency, equity, and fairness across all graduate programs.
Meeting Frequency: Meetings held on Fridays 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. OR 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Full Term: 3 years
Part of Term: 1 year

Outstanding Service Award (one former CCPS seat available)
The purpose is to review nominees, select the awardees, and forward the names to the Provost by December 15 for awards to be made at the next Faculty Awards Convocation.  The Outstanding Service awardees serve on the committee for the academic year following their awards.  The students and faculty members on the committee shall be representative of all segments of the campus community, including academic discipline, academic level, instructional level, race and sex.
Meeting Frequency: Normally, no formal meetings; business conducted electronically in the fall semester, unless the committee chair calls for a formal meeting.
Full Term: 3 years

Undergraduate Research Council (one former COE seat available)
In keeping with the values and strategic plan of GVSU that students should acquire new knowledge and explore its application through research, artistic expression, and scholarly activity, and that active scholarship may include collaboration of faculty and staff with students, the role of the URC is to provide advice and recommendations on university-wide policies and programs that apply to undergraduate research and creative practice. 
Meeting Frequency: Monthly during fall semester, up to once a week during winter semester.
Full Term: 3 years

University Assessment Committee (one former CCPS seat available)
The University Assessment Committee is the standing committee of the University Academic Senate that supports and promotes program- and unit-level assessment at GVSU.
Meeting Frequency: Meetings held alternating Mondays 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Part of Term: 1 year

University Curriculum Committee (one former COE and one former CCPS seat available)
The University Curriculum Committee (UCC) is responsible for a wide range of curriculum matters at the university. Whether it`s a change to an old course, the introduction of a new course or new program, or a change in requirements to a major or minor, the proposal must be reviewed by UCC.
Meeting Frequency:

University Libraries Advisory Committee (one former COE seat available)
To advise the university libraries on possible areas of library development as perceived by the faculty; to react to issues brought to them from the University libraries; to serve as a communication channel; to recommend to the Academic Senate in a timely manner on major policy issues and matters of general concern as identified by the Committee.
Meeting Frequency: Twice each fall and winter semester.

Writing Skills Committee (one former COE seat available)
The University Writing Skills Committee exists to develop and assess goals for Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program through the Supplemental Writing Skills (SWS) program at GVSU.
Meeting Frequency: Meets monthly during the academic year.
