Meet the Staff
Erika Bailey, Academic Advisor
Erika is a proud alumnae of Grand Valley State University. She earned her Associate’s in Liberal Arts at Grand Rapids Community College, then transferred to GVSU to earn a B.S. in Criminal Justice, a Master’s in Social Work, and a Master’s in Public Administration. Erika has mostly worked in education and she greatly enjoys helping others reach their goals. She is fascinated with spirituality, enjoys listening to music and dancing, and loves learning about Afrikan history, the diaspora, and influences of Afrikan culture around the world.

Breeann Gorham, Director
Breeann Gorham has advised, coached, mentored and supported students at GVSU for over 10 years. She believes the college experience goes beyond the classroom and is committed to connecting students with faculty, peers and experiences on campus and in the community. Breeann is alumnus from Central Michigan University, where she earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, studied abroad, became an executive board member of her sorority and squeezed in multiple jobs in the hospitality industry to pay for it all! Her college experience introduced a passion for mentoring others on their career and educational journey.
When away from campus, Breeann spends time with her son, daughter, friends and family. She loves to travel, exercise and enjoy West Michigan!

Renica Minott, Senior Academic Advisor
Dr. Renica Minott is a “Laker for a Lifetime” and brings a wealth of student service experience to her role of senior academic advisor. She received her associate’s degree from Muskegon Community College, bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University and master’s degree from Western Michigan University. In 2017, she completed her doctorate in community college leadership from Ferris State University. Her dissertation examined community colleges’ academic probation policies, practices, interventions, and outcomes.
In her spare time, Renica enjoys shopping and spending time with her daughter.

Angie Ryan, Office Coordinator
Angie Ryan has worked at Grand Valley State University for over 15 years and is passionate about helping students succeed. As a first generation student herself, Angie understands some of the unique challenges and frustrations students who are first in their families to attend college experience. She is a proud alumnus of Grand Valley earning both her Bachelor of Arts (2003) and Masters in Education (2013) with a concentration in Adult and Higher Education. Along with her work in the advising center, Angie is on the Appointment Manager Team, serves on the Women's Commission and has served on the Professional Support Staff Development Committee.
During her down time Angie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, watching football and reading.

Shantonya Scott, Senior Academic Advisor
Shantonya knows first-hand the overwhelming anxiety of being a first generation college student. For the past 6 years, she has helped thousands of students reach their educational, professional, and personal goals. Shantonya is a Senior Academic Advisor in the College of Community and Public Service where she works one-on-one with students helping them reach their maximum potential. She believes Education transforms and empowers students and she enjoys being a part of that journey

Nathan Swanson, Graduate Assistant
Nate is currently pursuing his M.Ed. in the College Student Affairs Leadership program. He earned a B.S. with Honors in Psychology with a minor in Leadership and Student Affairs from Central Michigan University in 2012. He earned an A.A. in Psychology and a Certificate in Addiction Studies from Grand Rapids Community College in 2013. He was actively engaged on campus at both his alma maters in several student positions and capacities.
Nate has a wonderful fur baby named Gambit that he rescued four years ago. In his free time, he enjoys exploring new places, trips to the beach and local lakes, and is an avid board, card and video game player.

Benjamin Van Dyke, Graduate Assistant
Since graduating from Michigan State University in 2015, Ben has worked with students in higher education through administration, mentoring, and religious advising. After two years living abroad Ben moved to Grand Rapids to complete an M.Ed in College Student Affairs Leadership at Grand Valley State University. He and his wife Allison enjoy connecting with university students, eating ethnic food, making their own Chai tea, and playing with their golden doodle puppy (also named Chai).

Where Are They Now?
The CCPS-UAC has had the pleasure of working with new student affairs professionals through graduate assistant positions in our office. We hire our graduate assistants from the College Student Affairs Leadership (CSAL) graduate program at GVSU. The pictures below are former graduate assistants in our office who have gone on to professional positions in the field across the nation. We are very proud of our former GA's and the work they did while in our office...and continue to do in the profession!
