Virtual Hospitality Conference with Hospitality and Event Industry Professional from Around the World

Dr. Lorie Tuma, assistant professor in Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM)-GVSU, was awarded a Teaching Innovation Grant from the Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center at GVSU to coordinate a virtual hospitality conference during COVID-19.  The conference was designed as a culminating activity for three HTM classes (96 students), alumni and other classes.

Dr. Tuma and Courtney Stanley of CS Consulting coordinated the Engage, Enrich, Enhance: Rebuilding the Foundation and Future of Hospitality and Tourism During COVID-19 virtual education conference.  The conference featured hospitality and event industry leaders from around the world, who provided resources for professionals and redefined the effectiveness of the industry's future. 

Featured speakers taught participants to network more effectively, build their digital brands and strategically position themselves for the future.

Speakers included:

 Shelley Williams, vice president of sales for Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Atlantic City

• Dahlia El Gazzar, CEO of DAHLIA+ Agency in Massachusetts

• Trevor Lui, principal at The Highbell Group in Toronto

• Natalia Roblero, business development manager for Memorable Incentives DMC, Costa Rica & Panama
