Spring/Summer 2019 Road Construction With Possible GVSU Impact

Upcoming road construction impacting travel for Grand Rapids commuters!

GRAND RAPIDS - WEST SIDE:

Laker Line Bus Stop construction:

  • April 2019 start
  • Ongoing for Summer 2019 along the Route 50 corridor (Lake Michigan Dr, Fulton, Michigan St)
  • Pew stop construction possible start first week of June

 

Butterworth one-day closure:

  • May 16, 2019, closure for crane work on building construction
  • Closure from Lexington to Front

 

Fulton St Resurfacing – From curve north of zoo to Grand River:

  • Possible May 20, 2019 start - repaving eastbound Fulton from zoo to Straight
  • End of June/early July – repaving westbound from Straight to zoo
  • Stretch from zoo to Straight to be complete before Lake Michigan Dr closure (Fulton to Garfield) begins to serve as detour route
  • Late September/early October – repaving stretch from Straight to Grand River

 

Lake Michigan Dr Road Design & Construction – Fulton to Garfield (inc. John Ball Park Dr - south end to Lake Mich Dr):

  • Lake Mich Dr. work – August to November 2019
    • This work will not begin until MDOT work on westbound I-196 is complete
    • Install miniature roundabout at Lake Michigan Dr and Valley
  • John Ball Park Dr work – City is allowing contractor to be flexible on schedule to save taxpayer money.
    • This section of roadway is not a through street

 

 

GRAND RAPIDS - DOWNTOWN:

Fulton Eastbound Utility Work – Grand River to Market:

  • May 13-17 – eastbound curb lane closure and restricting right turns
    • Detour Ottawa to Oakes for southbound access

 

 

GRAND RAPIDS - MICHIGAN/HILL:

Hastings Reconstruction -  Fairview to Prospect: 

  • This consists of a new traffic light at Hastings/Lafayette, new infrastructure (storm and sewer, water main) and sidewalks on the south side of Linear Park.  Parking will also be removed south of GVSU Finkelstein Hall (RFH) to make room for a left turn lane. 
  • May 13 – Hastings closed between Prospect and Fairview

 

Lafayette Reconstruction – Michigan to Hastings:

  • Lafayette will be milled and paved between Michigan Street and Hastings.  The CHS lot will be accessible, but there may be brief times where the machinery is running in front of the entrance where it will not. 
  • July 29 – Lafayette closed between Michigan and Hastings
  • August 24 - Lafayette work to be complete
  • September 20 – Substantial Completion for entire project

 

Laker Line Bus Stop construction:

  • April 2019 start
  • Ongoing for Summer 2019 along the Route 50 corridor (Lake Michigan Dr, Fulton, Michigan St)
  • Michigan lane closure for bus platform construction – North to Lafayette
    • May 13 – July 17 - Closing one curb lane during the day and up to one week during project

 

 

ALLENDALE:

Laker Line Bus Stop construction:

  • April 2019 start
  • Ongoing for Summer 2019 along the Route 50 corridor (Lake Michigan Dr, Fulton, Michigan St)
  • May 6 – August 2019 - Campus Dr closure from Ravine Center Dr to Calder Dr
  • Traffic detours to Laker Village Dr
