Dual Enrollment at Battle Creek Central High School

Juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above have the opportunity to enroll in dual enrollment classes that are taught by GVSU professors on-site at Battle Creek Central High School. Each course is offered to students for free and upon successful completion, they earn 3 college credits, a value of $1758 ($586/credit hour).

INT 100: Reflect, Connect, and Engage

This course provides a foundation to help you become familiar with college-level work, develop study habits, learn to use critical thinking skills, and engage in critical dialogue. You explore how education can empower you and others to question yourselves and society through critical engagement with both classical and contemporary philosophical and literacy texts. It also teaches skills that help develop your personal, professional, and civic lives. 

This course is applicable to all high school students and satisfies a foundational course requirement for undergraduate programs. 

3 credits (Foundational Course: Philosophy and Literature)

EDF 115: Introduction to Education

This field-based course explores the way schools work and introduces students to the professional roles and responsibilities of educators. Students learn principles of teaching and learning, including social and cultural factors that shape learning outcomes.

This course is applicable to all high school students and satisfies a foundational course requirement for undergraduate programs.

3 credits (Foundational course: Social and Behavioral Studies)

 

AHS 110: Introduction to Healthcare

This course provides students with an introduction to the U.S. healthcare system and exploration of health-related professions and topics. 

This course is intended for students in healthcare or nursing pathways.

AHS 100: Medical Terminology

This course offers a systematic approach to understanding medical terminology through the construction and translation of medical terms. 

This course is applicable to all high school students and satisfies a foundational course requirement for undergraduate programs.

Eligibility

Battle Creek Central High School juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above may enroll. Students must earn at least a 2.0 in each dual enrollment course if they wish to continue taking dual enrollment courses through Grand Valley State University.

Registration

To register for dual enrollment courses through Grand Valley State University, students must complete the dual enrollment form and the dual enrollment non-degree application and turn them into the high school Welcome Center or their school counselor. All students registering for dual enrollment must have a counselor's signature and approval. The counselor will confirm your GPA and send transcripts on your behalf to GVSU.
