Grand Valley State University seeks an outstanding finance professional to join the finance and administration leadership team as Associate Vice President for Business and Finance. The Associate Vice President leads the implementation of the financial strategy for the University, utilizing his/her financial expertise and management skills. The Associate Vice President reports directly to the Vice President for Finance and Administration and works with other members of the Finance and Administration Division, members of the Senior Leadership Team and the President’s Cabinet, the Board of Trustees, and colleagues across the institution.
The Associate Vice President will join a strong and cohesive team within the Finance and Administration Division; lead a full- time staff of 90 with 6 direct reports, provide leadership and counsel in strategy implementation, tactical and operational financial leadership, management planning and execution. For fiscal year 2019, the overall University operating budget is $450 million and a $130 million endowment.
The Associate Vice President provides leadership in working closely with the Vice President of Finance and Administration to set and implement the long-term financial and investment strategies and short-term fiscal policy for the University and leads the creation of appropriate tools to prepare complete financial analyses to support decision-making. The Associate Vice President is responsible for the overall financial management of the University, including the annual development of the operating and capital budgets, support of investment decisions and financial stability. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of all aspects of financial management and internal controls in a medium-to-large organization, and significant demonstrable financial leadership experience. The Associate Vice President is involved in real estate matters of the University including tax credits, and redevelopment of property.
The Associate Vice President will be an individual with exceptional financial, administrative and leadership skills who serves as a key contributor and collaborator on the Finance and Administration Division’s team. They will help lead innovative change that will improve the use of the University’s resources. The Associate Vice President will work collaboratively on budget development and related matters with members of the Senior Leadership Team and budget committee. The Associate Vice President will lead financial and accounting operations that meet the current and future needs of the University and be a critical contributor in identifying and implementing processes and systems with the goal of improved service and cost effectiveness. The successful candidate will assist the Vice President for Finance and Administration to further the University’s strategic goals in academic relevance, student success and institution-wide diversity and inclusion as contained in the 2016¬2021 University Strategic Plan.
