April is Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month! Michigan educators, parents, and students will acknowledge Autism Awareness Month through Peer to Peer support programs and awareness activities in their schools and communities. Join the START Project in supporting their efforts to spread Autism Awareness!

As you may know, Autism Speaks has a Light it Up Blue campaign and hundreds of buildings and landmarks around the world, including Egypt’s Great Pyramid, London’s Trafalgar Square, Empire State Building, Niagara Falls, and Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer statue will Light It Up Blue in support of Autism Awareness. Keep an eye out of Michigan buildings that are lit blue!

For more information on the Light It Up Blue campaign, visit the Autism Speaks website

What is your area doing for Autism Awareness Month? We want to know what is going on around Michigan! Email the START office with your celebrations or tag us on Facebook or Twitter!

Looking for ideas? Here are some things that schools in Michigan have done for Autism Awareness Month:

  • Order blue graduation cords for your Peer to Peer program.
  • Integrate information about autism into your morning announcements.
  • Light It Up Blue with blue nail polish.
  • Create something meaningful as a school - design ribbons, posters, or decorate the hallways.
