DESCRIPTION:Friends of Alten members are invited to join us for Mathias Alten\: A Giant Among Us.\n\n\n\nThis special conversation will feature local tour guide Caroline Cook\, who will share\n\ninsights into the art and daily life of Mathias Alten. During the reception\, guests are\n\ninvited to explore the Gordon Galleries and enjoy time together in celebration of\n\nAlten&rsquo\;s enduring legacy.\n\n\n\nIt is nearly impossible to enter a prominent building in downtown Grand Rapids\n\nwithout encountering one of Alten&rsquo\;s paintings. His work continues to enrich the\n\ncity&rsquo\;s public spaces &mdash\; from the Grand Rapids Public Library and the St. Cecilia Music\n\nCenter to historic churches\, hospitals\, universities\, and galleries. A world-renowned\n\nmaster who made his home in Grand Rapids\, Alten remains a defining presence in\n\nthe cultural life of our community.\n\n\n\nThe evening will conclude with a heartfelt celebration of life honoring our dear\n\nfriend and supporter\, Barbara Gordon (1934&ndash\;2026).\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis event is for members of the Friends of Alten.
