Description

What is the story behind a frame that surrounds an Alten’s painting? Did Alten chose it or did it come later? How does one select an appropriate frame for an artwork? What do we know about the frames’ profiles, designs, and finishes?

Frames can be easy to overlook as they dutifully fulfill their aesthetic and physical support roles of artworks. We want to shake things up and make them the center of attention for a change.  Kim Smith of Perception Gallery will take us on a fun, informal tour of George and Barbara Gordon Gallery for a discussion about the frames that surround Alten’s artworks. Join us anytime after 4:45 pm for a welcoming reception preceding the tour. The conversational tour will begin at 5:15.

For additional information or if you have questions, need assistance or accommodations, please call us at 616.331.2563 or email at [email protected] at least 2 days in advance so arrangements can be made in a timely manner. All Art Gallery events open to the public with free admission.

Suggested parking is in the Seward Lot.  You are welcome to park in the lot or ramp, no pass will be necessary because of Summer enforcement.  Richard M. DeVos Center Map  The DeVos Center is #3 on the map and the address is 401 Fulton Street W, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 for driving directions.
