Troy A. Hardy, '95
Troy Hardy is a multi-Emmy nominated music editor, composer, and guitarist. He is also the owner of Meltro Music in greater-Los Angeles, California.
Hardy earned a bachelor of art in music from Grand Valley State
University in 1995. He moved to Los Angeles the day after graduation
to begin recording with a band under Sony Music A&R representative
Randy Jackson of American Idol fame. He landed a job as an office
assistant with a local music company which composed music for the
television show Baywatch, and diligently worked his way into a music
editor role. He then expanded to other agencies, working on higher
profile shows before branching out on his own.
His
television series credits as music editor include HBO’s Entourage,
CBS’s CSI-Crime Scene Investigation and Viva Laughlin, NBC’s The West
Wing, Showtime's Huff, and pilot episodes of My Name is
Earl, and Grey’s Anatomy. To date, Hardy has completed work on over
250 television episodes.
Hardy also boasts an impressive
list of composition credits. He scored the music for NBC’s The Jake
Effect, and the end credits for the film Pursued. His original songs
have appeared in a multitude of television shows including; American
Idol, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, E.R., Huff, The West Wing, Once
& Again, iCarly: iGo to Japan, and Baywatch, to name a few. His
compositions were also featured in movie trailers for Ghosts of
Girlfriends Past, Last Chance Harvey and Role Models.
Hardy
played guitar on the main title theme for TLC’s Little People, Big
World. He also played on underscores for the movie Pursued, and the
series Baywatch, Baywatch Nights, and Hard Copy. He has written and
performed with many established Los Angeles artists, and co-written
with Grammy-winning songwriters.
He has received four
Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Sound Editing for a
Series. He also earned Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel
nominations in 2008 and 2009 for Best Sound Editing - Music for Short
Form Television.
While a student at GVSU, Hardy was a
resident assistant, played in the Studio Jazz Orchestra, the Laker
Marching Band and sang in Festivale Chorale. He credits his
well-rounded experience at Grand Valley in building the foundation for
his success. “It wasn’t just my formal education that has made a
difference, but rather the experiences outside the classroom that have
altered my course in life,” Hardy said.
Hardy and his wife
Melissa, ’94, whom he met while both attended GVSU, currently reside
in Stevenson Ranch, CA and have three daughters.
