Jacqueline, '00 & '05 and Kevin, '98 Schafer

Jacqueline, ’00 & ’05 and Kevin, ‘98 Schafer have been serving Grand Valley and have maintained active involvement, loyalty, and support as Lakers for more than 20 years. They have both put in countless volunteer hours in the name of Grand Valley from the time they were freshmen.

Kevin received a bachelor’s degree in finance from the Seidman College of Business in 1998. Jacqueline is a two-time graduate of the Seidman College of Business. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2000, followed by a master of taxation in 2005.

As an undergraduate, Kevin served as the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity treasurer and a GVSU volunteer as the Habitat for Humanity Coordinator. He is currently the financial advisor for Alpha Sigma Phi and was a member of the alumni board from 2002 – 2008. Kevin was a member of the GVSU Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2002 until 2011, serving as the Vice President for three years. He is also the committee chair of the Alumni Golf Outing Committee, which is the Alumni Association’s annual fundraiser. He currently works in Grand Rapids as the Vice President/Commercial Loan Officer of Mercantile Bank of Michigan.

As an undergraduate, Jacqueline held a position as the Delta Zeta Sorority treasurer and member of Panhellenic Council. She volunteered as the Delta Zeta sorority alumna financial advisor for six years. Due to her active involvement and dedication to the GVSU Accounting alumni group, she was added to the Accounting Alumni Hall of Fame in 2010. She served as President of the Accounting Alumni and Friends Organization for seven years, until 2014, and was a GVSU Accounting Advisory Board Member. She currently works for Mirador Family Wealth Advisors, Fifth Third Bank’s multi-family office, as a Wealth Planning Consultant.

The Schafers live in Grand Rapids and have two sons, Gabriel and Zachary, and they stay busy with involvement in sports. The family volunteers periodically at GVSU Community Outreach Week events, Kids Food Basket and the River Bank Run. They also enjoy attending annual Grand Valley Homecoming events.

Kevin and Jacqueline Schafer have a strong connection to their alma mater. They have been exceptional examples of the Laker for a Lifetime mantra. Their service through volunteerism, financial support, leadership, and participation in special events has proven their loyalty to Grand Valley State University.
