Founders Brewing Co. - Environmental, Health, and Safety Coordinator
1. Tell us about your journey since graduation.
Upon gradation, I turned my internship with Founders Brewing Co.
into a full-time position as their EHS Coordinator! I continued being
a part of West Michigan American Society of Safety Professionals
(ASSP) and accepted a position on their e-board as their Education
Chair. This way I could assist the Grand Valley ASSP chapter and work
to build more ASSP chapters within other universities. I also decided
to pursue a MBA Degree at Grand Valley and will begin this fall.
Extremely excited to see what else the future holds!
2. Share a favorite Grand Valley memory.
It's hard to pick a single moment that's my favorite memory at
GVSU because I have so many great memories from the OSH program. Since
it was a small program/class size, it was easier to build
relationships with the students and professors so it seems like we
were always laughing about something. One of my favorite moments was
when we were practicing putting out fires with extinguishers and
turned it into a competition with the professor too.
3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?
The best piece of advice I've ever received is to never stop
learning. Upon graduation, people may think that once they have their
degree that means they know it all. Industries and technology are
always changing so it's good to stay on top of things and continue
pushing yourself to learn more.
4. List three words you would use to describe your Grand
Valley experience.
Friendships, memories, worthwhile
5. What difference would you like to make in the world?
I want to change people's perspective of who a safety
professional can be. In the past, it was typically the "safety
guy" but more women are emerging into the field. It tends to be a
little less common for a female to be in this role so it's a great
opportunity for me to show other women that they can be a safety
leader too in male-dominated industries/fields.
