1. What has your journey been since graduation?
I’ve worked for Mercy Health since graduating. I’ve worked on an inpatient unit, in the emergency department, and have been in my current position as a case manager for three years. I married my husband, who I met at Grand Valley in 2013, and we welcomed our daughter Caroline in 2017.

2. How has Grand Valley had a role in your journey?
GVSU has played a huge role in my journey! When I was still a student, I arranged a mock interview with the Career Services Center, and my interviewer put me in touch with a human resources representative with Mercy Health so I could learn more about the hiring process and what made a great candidate. That contact helped me land my first job as a new grad! Having the opportunity to see different healthcare organizations in clinicals gave me really great insight into which places I could see myself working. I knew I wanted to work at Mercy Health as a student, so I have Grand Valley to thank for helping to make it a reality!

3. What is your favorite Grand Valley memory?
Spending Sundays with my Phi Sigma Sigma sisters, and clinicals in the nursing program. Undergrad was so much fun, but what’s been even more fun is continuing to make memories with the people I met at Grand Valley and getting to be there for the big moments in their lives- weddings, new jobs, and babies.

4. What three words describe your experience at Grand Valley?
Fun. Home. Challenging.
But also: Lake Effect Snow.

5. How, and why, have you stayed involved with Grand Valley since graduation?
I’ve attended some Young Alumni Council social events and had the opportunity to share my experience as an alumni as a speaker at the Future Alumni Association’s Dinner with the 7 Lakers event. I’m currently the President of the Kirkhof College of Nursing Alumni Chapter, a group I’ve been involved with for several years.

6. Why are you proud to be a Laker for a Lifetime?
Grand Valley is known as a great place to go to college, so it’s really nice to be connected to it. Whenever I talk to parents of current students, they always say great things about their experiences so far. I love being able to relate and assure them that the experience continues on!

7. What do you like to do for fun?
I have a 9 month-old daughter, and so any time I get to spend with her is fun. Seeing her smile and experiencing new things brings me so much joy. A day at home with her and my husband is an ideal day in my book.

8. What is your favorite quote/motto to live by?
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." - African Proverb

9. What motivates you?
Balance! I get a lot of satisfaction from my work and I feel like I make a difference in the lives of my patients. I hope that I am setting a positive example of work/life balance for my daughter.

10. What book or movie have you recently enjoyed?
I recently read Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier for the first time and loved it!
