NOTES:

  • Degree offered: B.S., B.A.. Students seeking the B.A. degree must demonstrate third semester proficiency in a foreign language. Students seeking the B.S. degree must take MATH 150.
  • Students may want to consider transferring after one year of basic courses. Many of the required freshman/sophomore communication courses are not available at Southwestern Michigan College.
  • Possible electives include:  COMM 115, THEA 180, THEA 181,  ART 105 and BUSI 221.
  • World Perspectives electives:  GERM 202, PHIL 201, SOCI 101, SPAN 202
  • U.S. Diversity electives:  SOCI 202, SOCI 203, SOCI 240
  • This guide fulfills the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA).  Science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Humanities elective must be a non-SPEE course.  Social science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Please check with your community college advisor for additional associate degree requirements.  GVSU will still honor the MACRAO agreement.

CAREER OPPPORTUNITIES

Communication Studies is a multidisciplinary liberal arts and professional field. At Grand Valley a student may choose a general major in communications studies or one of six specialized majors. These majors include: Film and Video Production, Photography, Theatre, Advertising and Public Relations, Multimedia Journalism, and Health Communications.
