  • Degree offered: B.A.  The B.A. degree requires a third semester proficiency in a foreign langague.  Third semester will need to be taken at Grand Valley.
  • This guide fulfills the Michigan Transfer agreement.  Science and social science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Please check with your community college advisor for additional associate degree requirements.  GVSU will still honor the MACRAO agreement.
  • World Perspectives electives:  ANP 121, ANP 239, ENG 203, HUM 241, HUM 242
  • U.S. Diversity electives:  HST 221, HST 222, SOC 210, SOC 230
  • Possible ENG electives:  ENG 203. ENG 205, ENG 223, ENG 224, ENG 243 or ENG 244
  • Students interested in elementary teacher certification (K-8) should take PSY 101 as a social science elective and could also take ENG 242, MTH 117, and MTH 111.
  • Students interested in secondary teacher certification (6-12) should take PSY 101 as a social science elective and will also be required to complete a teachable minor.
  • Students may want to transfer after one year of basic courses.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Students who major in English find work in a variety of fields, ranging from management to computer programming. Careers such as writing, library science, teaching, editing, and publishing are directly related to specific studies in English language and literature. The communication skills developed in the study of English are also important to careers in public relations, business management, and personnel counseling.
