  • Degree offered: B.S., B.A.  Students seeking the B.A. degree must demonstrate third semester proficiency in a foreign language.
  • Accreditation: Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society.
  • This guide assumes students are ready to begin with MATH 151.
  • PHYS 101 + 102 are required for the following emphasis areas: Technical, Education, Biochemistry, teacher certification and Environmental. PHYS 201 + 202 are required for the Professional emphasis.
  • PHSC 104 is recommended for students interested in teacher certification.
  • This guide fulfills the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA).  Humanities electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Social science electives must be selected from different disciplines.   Please check with your community college advisor for additional associate degree requirements.  GVSU will still honor the MACRAO agreement.
  • World Perspectives electives:  FORL 202, FORL 222, HIST 102, POSC 202
  • U.S. Diversity electives:  HIST 201, HIST 202, HONR 215, SOC 201, SOC 202, SOC 205
  • Students pursuing teacher certification should not take a U.S. Diversity elective.
  • Students pursuing teacher certificaion should take PSY 201 as a social science elective.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Chemists with bachelor's degrees find employment in all areas of manufacturing, agribusiness, energy production, and health care, and in a wide variety of industrial, governmental, and medical laboratories. Areas of employment include product development and testing, quality control, environmental monitoring, and pollution control. Outside of the laboratory, chemists are employed by chemical and pharmaceutical companies in sales, technical service, and various phases of business
