  • Degree offered: B.A., B.S., B.F.A. Students seeking the B.A. degree must demonstrate third-semester proficiency in a foreign language. Students seeking the B.S. degree should take MATH 122 and CIS 115 or PHIL 247.
  • Accreditation: National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
  • This guide fulfills the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA).  Science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Humanities elective must be a non-ART course.  Social science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Please check with your community college advisor for additional associate degree requirements.  GVSU will still honor the MACRAO agreement.
  • World Perspectives electives:  ANTH 211, ARA 202, FR 202, GEOG 133, GER 202, HIST 137, HIST 138, HUM 232, SPAN 202
  • U.S. Diversity electives:  HIST 151, HIST 152, HIST 153, SOC 205, SOC 209, SOC 210
  • Students are strongly encouraged to transfer after one year.
  • Students interested in K-12 teacher certification should take PSYCH 201 and PSYCH 209 as social science electives.
  • Transfer students interested in pursuing a program within the Department of Art & Design must apply for and attend a portfolio review session to determine acceptance into the program and, if accepted, determine which studio courses may receive specific credit.  For more details on the application process to the Department of Art & Design please see
