  • Degree offered: B.A., B.M., B.M.E.. Students seeking the B.A. degree must demonstrate third semester proficiency in a foreign language.
  • Each applicant wanting to major or minor in music is required to arrange for a personal audition with the Music Department.
  • Transfer students are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours at Grand Valley, which include at least eight hours in applied music, three hours in major ensembles, and nine additional hours in music to be determined by the advisor.
  • All students are required to take a theory placement exam and a keyboard placement exam.
  • All majors must fulfill the department recital and Music Major Seminar attendance requirements, fulfill the keyboard musicianship requirements, and perform one or two faculty-approved recitals, as appropriate to the degree program selected.
  • Students who receive general music credit for transfer courses may meet with a faculty advisor to discuss course equivalencies after being admitted inot the music program.
  • World Perspectives electives:  GERM 202, PHIL 201, SOCI 101, SPAN 202
  • U.S. Diversity electives:  SOCI 202, SOCI 203, SOCI 240
  • This guide fulfills the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA).  Science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Social science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Humanities elective must be a non-MUSI course.  Please check with a community college advisor for additional associate degree requirements.  GVSU will still honor the MACRAO agreement.
  • Students interested in teacher certification should take PSYC 101 and PSYC 205.
