  • Degree offered: B.A., B.F.A., B.S.. Students seeking a B.A. degree must demonstrate third semester proficiency in a foreign language. Students seeking the B.S. degree must take MATH 150.
  • All transfer credit for studio courses is by portfolio review.
  • Accreditation: National Association of Schools of Art and Design
  • It is strongly recommended that students transfer after one year of basic courses.
  • World Perspectives electives:  GERM 202, PHIL 201, SOCI 101, SPAN 202
  • U.S. Diversity electives:  SOCI 202, SOCI 203, SOCI 240
  • This degree fulfills the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA).  Science electives must be selected from different disciplines.  Humanities elective must be a non-ART course.  Social science electives must be selected from different disciplines.   Please check with your community college advisor for additional associate degree requirements.  GVSU will still honor the MACRAO agreement.
  • Transfer students interested in pursuing a program within the Department of Art & Design must apply and attend a portfolio review session to determine acceptance into the program and, if accepted, determine which studio courses may receive specific credit.  For more details in the application process to the Department of Art & Design please see
  • Students interested in K-12 teacher certification should take PSYC 101 as a social science elective.
