What do you like most about teaching at Grand Valley?
I love the opportunity to combine research and teaching in the classroom.

What is your favorite class to teach?
One of my favorite classes is Environmental Problem Solving. This is a capstone for the environmental studies minor. It's a very interesting student audience because all of the students have different majors.

What do students like best about your class?
Students really enjoy the hands-on experience. I hear it again and again. The applied research is definitely something the students appreciate.

How do you contribute to the success of your students?
I believe in the success of my students. The first step is just to believe that they can achieve anything they want. That's contagious. Then they start believing, as well.

What advice would you give to prospective students?
Definitely come to Grand Valley. Come to Grand Valley and choose your combination of major and minor very wisely. I'm a big believer in interdisciplinary education. I feel that we all need roots and wings.

What is the most rewarding aspect about teaching at Grand Valley?
We have small classes. We have enough time to really know our students, to know their names, to know their faces, to know what their interests are. It's very rewarding for students. It's also very rewarding for us as professors.
