Preparing for Orientation

The following items are steps you can take in order to prepare for your Freshman Orientation Session. On your orientation day, you will be part of a group of about 10 fellow students, along with a faculty member, a professional advisor, and two experienced undergraduates. You'll learn more about academics, life at GVSU, curriculum requirements, and register for your classes.

Send official transcripts from all colleges you may have attended, including dual enrollment or middle college courses.

If you plan to take a math placement exam, please do so at least 24 hours prior to attending your orientation session. The test can be found at gvsu.edu/s/mv 

Determine if you would like to take a language placement exam at your orientation session

Consider your options for your first year writing course. Further information can be found on our Writing Department website.

Become familiar with the general education requirements. Course descriptions and requirement information can be found at gvsu.edu/s/KL

Preview the fall and winter class schedule at gvsu.edu/schedule. You will select classes at your orientation session.

If you have determined a major, become familiar with major requirements at gvsu.edu/catalog.
