What do you like most about teaching at Grand Valley?
I like the interaction between the students and the faculty. The small class sizes allow the students to know us, and it allows us to know them.

What is your favorite class to teach?
Advanced Managerial Finance; it is the capstone class in the Finance Department. I get students who are a heartbeat away from graduation. What makes it fun is that we use a simulation program so they have to run their own company.

What do students like best about your class?
I emphasize the real world. I worked for a division of General Motors for 15 years, so integrated into my teaching is real-world application of the concepts that we're learning in class.

How do you contribute to the success of your students?
They rely on the fact that I was in the business world for an extended period of time and that I have contacts in the business world. I also have an idea of what types of jobs are out there, especially from a corporate perspective.

What advice would you give to prospective students?
Look at the characteristics of each university or college that they're looking at. Are the classes large? Are the classes small? Do they have internships available for students?

What is the most rewarding aspect about teaching at Grand Valley?
I love the interaction with the students. I also think we have a really collegial faculty. I've enjoyed it both from the student perspective and from the people that I work with.
