International Student Scholarships
Grand Valley State University is proud to offer academic-based competitive scholarships to qualified international applicants. Available to both undergraduate and graduate applicants, these scholarships were established to recognize the high level of academic achievement of students coming to our campus from around the world. Scholarship review begins in February and continues through May of every year.
Graduate students who present exceptional academic preparation and performance may be considered for research graduate assistantship. Recipients would assist the department with research and project work. These awards are highly competitive and it is suggested that applicants submit all of the required admissions items by February 1 for consideration. Applications received after this date will still be considered for assistantships, but there may be none available. Recipients of a Graduate Assistantship are not eligible for the International Merit award academic scholarship. For more information about Graduate Assistantships, you can go here – http://www.gvsu.edu/gs/what-is-a-graduate-assistantship--22.htm.
International applicants must submit all required items for admission by May 1 to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are only available for students that apply for Fall admission. Please be aware that there are NO additional admissions scholarships available upon arrival at Grand Valley.
Newly admitted international students pursuing a Bachelor's and Master's degree may be considered for the following scholarships, depending on their qualifications. Full time enrollment, completion of a specified number of credits, and maintenance of your immigration status is required to renew the scholarship. If a certain grade point average is required from Grand Valley at the end of each year to renew the scholarship, it is listed below.
International Merit Scholarship:
Every year, Grand Valley awards the International Merit Award to incoming international students who have demonstrated an outstanding academic achievement record and a willingness to enhance the Grand Valley community. The value of this scholarship is $5,000 per year and it is awarded to graduate and undergraduate students. All students applying for admission to the Fall semester and who submit all required items for admission by May 1 are eligible for this competitive scholarship.
Typically, scholarship students have a strong academic background and a strong commitment to extracurricular involvement. Decisions are made based on academic credentials and other supporting information included in the application. Please note that only students applying for F1 status are eligible for this scholarship. The International Merit Scholarship requires full-time attendance and is available for a total of eight consecutive semesters for undergraduate students and four consecutive semesters for graduate students.
Renewal: Undergraduate students must maintain a 2.85 GPA, maintain full-time enrollment and valid immigration status. Graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA, maintain full-time enrollment and valid immigration status.
