Why did you choose to attend Grand Valley?
I visited Grand Valley several different times when younger on field trips. I thought that it was a very nice looking school. It is very clean and all the people tend to be very nice. I also like how the whole transportation system works. I liked knowing that even without having a car, I could get around. The free bus system goes throughout the whole city. I really like that.

What do you like best about Grand Valley?
I like the education professors. They are super nice and get to know you as a person. They don't put too much paperwork on you and overwhelm you, but they want you to get the full educational experience and still challenge you.

How have you benefited from Grand Valley's liberal education foundation?
When I first came to Grand Valley I didn't understand why I had to take the extra classes, but a lot of the classes I took exposed me to different things I would have never done. For example, I took a theatre course and for extra credit I tried out for a Shakespearean play on campus. I ended up in the play and having a great experience I never would have had before. Plus, some of my friends watched the play to support me that never would have came to a play otherwise. So they got to experience something new too. Liberal education allows you to know more of what is going on around you besides just your specific area of study. It helps you meet other people different from yourself.

How will Grand Valley help you meet your future goals?
My advisor really helps me meet my academic and my future professional goals. He gives me new ideas about classes and ways to learn that I never would have thought of. I visit him regularly. He helps me think outside of the box.

How has Grand Valley's faculty made a difference in your college experience?
One specific example is my work with Professor Peter Wampler and the Empowering Haiti through Education Fund he started. I am originally from Haiti and my sister and I have helped him translate a survey that he was sending out to Haiti. And now me and another girl are trying to help plan a fundraiser and get the word out so funds can be raised for the scholarship. A lot of people forgot about Haiti by now, but Wampler is still trying to do something.

What advice would you give to prospective students?
Go to your professors office hours. It will make classes that much easier. In high school we don't have an office to go visit our teachers in, but in college it is worth the time. Also, meet with your advisor so you are taking the courses you need to take and go to tutoring if you need help. You might get good help from not only the tutor, but the students that are there getting help as well.
