B.S. in Engineering, Grand Valley State University
Hamilton, Michigan, United States
Current Position and Employer:
Full-time graduate student, graduate assistant with the School of Engineering
Why did you choose to attend Grand Valley?
It was affordable and I had heard great things about the engineering program.
What do you like best about Grand Valley?
The Pew Grand Rapids Campus; I like that it is downtown and close to everything going on in the city.
Have you been able to incorporate your graduate studies into your job? How?
I have a class I am taking right now in medical device design and my assistantship is designing an EKG system for my advisor, so the two go together well.
How will Grand Valley help you meet your future goals?
With this master's I should hopefully be able to have a better job than with just a bachelor's, and in Newsweek it came out that biomedical engineering is one of the fastest growing jobs.
How has Grand Valley's faculty made a difference in your graduate experience?
They have really worked towards helping me find a thesis and an internship for the summer. Going into this I had no idea what medical companies were in the Michigan area, but they are putting me in contact with a lot of them.
What advice would you give to prospective graduate students?
Go full time instead of trying to do a job and come to school in the evenings, if possible. It is nice to be able to come to school full time, and a graduate assistantship makes that possible. If offered one, take it.
