What do you like most about teaching at Grand Valley?
Grand Valley has a great integration of teaching, research, and service. They're really all parts of a greater whole. I think that really energizes our teaching.
What is your favorite class to teach?
The summer study abroad programs that I've conducted. I've done six study abroad programs in Australia and also four programs in England.
What do students like best about your class?
The fact that I really do have a passion for cities and for communities, and I think students appreciate they have opportunities for engaging with community.
How do you contribute to the success of your students?
Playing a role outside of the classroom. Personally, I believe in open access. I have an open door policy.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
I really encourage students to follow their interests rather than some other reason why they may choose a career. Then try to gain as much practical experience as possible.
What is the most rewarding aspect about teaching at Grand Valley?
To see our students go on and achieve success in their personal and professional lives.
