What do you like most about teaching at Grand Valley?
I get to teach the subjects that I love to teach. I also get to do research on the nonprofit sector and get to be involved with very amazing service opportunities.
What is your favorite class to teach?
I teach a class of financial management and fund development. At the end of the semester they really know how to analyze the finances of a nonprofit and they actually have an applied project where they do a fundraising plan within a local organization.
What do students like best about your class?
Before I came to Grand Valley, I ran various nonprofits for 10 years. I bring in real-life examples to the classes and my students enjoy that, and I enjoy sharing those experiences.
How do you contribute to the success of your students?
I really make it a point to be available to my students.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
They should work on their writing skills and make sure that they have a really great essay, visit with faculty members before they apply to the program, and make sure that they strengthen their networking skills.
What is the most rewarding aspect about teaching at Grand Valley?
I get to do what I love. I'm in my dream job.
