Gayle R. Davis Excellence in Leadership Award

During the 2017-2018 academic year, President Thomas J. Haas authorized the establishment of the Gayle R. Davis Excellence in Leadership Award to be presented by the University to a current faculty or staff member who has been a positive agent of change at the University.  This award is named for Gayle R. Davis, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs Emerita, who served from 2002-2017, and who was a collaborative leader.  Dr. Davis retired from Grand Valley in Spring 2017. The Davis Award is a tribute to the high regard the University has for Dr. Davis and to the many outstanding contributions she made throughout her tenure.

The Gayle R. Davis Leadership Award will be awarded annually to a deserving GVSU faculty or staff member who:

  • is a positive agent of change;
  • has made a significant impact;
  • and excels at fostering collaborative process, diverse perspectives, and innovative change.

This award celebrates innovation and change that impacts the University. Whether it is a large or small project or demonstrated results in general, steps taken by the nominees and the positive results achieved will be considered. The recipient does not need to manage or supervise others, but is rather a leader in a broader sense.

This award is significant as it honors a former Grand Valley leader and showcases positive leadership on campus. The award crosses faculty and staff lines and is a way to reinforce that we are one team working on behalf of our students.

Submissions will be collected by the Office of the President. Nominations are due by November 1, of each year.
