Jerry Stinnett has taught courses in first-year writing, style, public writing, technical writing, and teaching college writing. His research examines how writers know when and how to adapt knowledge and practices of writing for different situations and attempts to develop teaching strategies to support that adaptation. His work has appeared in the journals College English, Literacy in Composition Studies, and College Composition and Communication. His next projects include a history of writing instruction in higher education and a study of the limits of rhetorically flexibility in actual writing practice. 

Jerry is the Director of First-Year Writing at GVSU.
