Ploughshares and Emerson College are proud to announce that Ander Monson has been named the 2007recipient of the John C. Zacharis First Book Award for his novel, Other Electricities. The $1,500 award—which is funded by Emerson College and named after the college’s former president—honors the best debut book published by a Ploughshares writer, alternating annually between fiction and poetry.
Debut Issue of Vinette
Vinette, a student gallery of professional writing, presents its premiere issue. The gallery features a range of work from professional documents to multimedia design. The editors, Maggie Porter and Meahgan Pear, are presenting work from student writers that show off a range of artistic and rhetorical skill.

Professor Sun Wins Award for best article
Bill Karis, current president of the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing announced today that Professor Huatong Sun was this year's winner of the Nell Ann PIcket award for best article in the Technical Communication Quarterly.
Huatong's article: "The Triumph of Users: Achieving Cultural Usability Goals" (TCQ15. 4, 483-504)
The award, which also provides a cash prize of $250, will be announced publically at the Business Meeting of the upcoming ATTW conference to be held in New York City, on March 21, from 5 - 5:45PM in the Trianon Ballroom at the Hilton in mid-town Manhattan.
NEA Grant awarded to Nicole Walker
ALLENDALE, Mich. - A Grand Valley State University assistant professor of creative writing, Nicole Walker, has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant of $20,000.
Walker, the only Michigan recipient, is one of 50 poets to receive a Literature Fellowship for Creative Writing in Poetry out of more than 1,000 who applied. The NEA calls the grants its "most direct investment in American creativity." [read the entire story at GVNOW]
