General Interests

I am interested in the factors that form, maintain, and alter biological communities, particularly aquatic communities because they represent important natural resources that I value and that are threatened by anthropogenic activities.  I integrate studies of historical biogeography, phylogeny, evolution, and ecology using a diversity of methods including molecular genetics, field and laboratory experiments, and multivariate statistics.  While much of my research focuses on basic questions, I increasingly apply my research framework to the study of biological invasions.
