The upcoming year promises to be busy and challenging. Some of the projects that AWRI staff will be engaged in during 2004 include: (1) implementation of Best Management Practices in the Muskegon River Watershed; (2) analysis of coastal wetlands to assess their ecological health; (3) long-term monitoring of Muskegon Lake; (4) ecological effects of sediment contaminants in Little Black Creek (Muskegon Heights); (5) importance of internal phosphorus loading in Mona and Spring Lakes; and (6) development of a GIS database for groundwater in Mecosta County. In addition, the AWRI vessel program will continue to serve our region by introducing elementary, middle school, high school, and university students to the major issues facing the Great Lakes. We look forward to updating you on these, and other projects, during the year.
