AWRI Online Newsletter #69: October 2007

We welcome Ryan Thum to AWRI starting November 5, 2007 to fill our open aquatic ecologist position.

Ryan was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.  Ryan received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Florida State University and his Ph.D. from Dartmouth College.  He also served as a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University.  Ryan's research interests lie in evolutionary ecology, with a specialization in the integration of molecular genetics and community ecology in aquatic ecosystems.  He fills an important niche at AWRI as we delve into the world of aquatic molecular ecology.  Discussions on collaborative projects with AWRI researchers in the areas of toxic cyanobacteria, invasive species, and microbial ecology have already begun.

Ryan and his family are looking forward to their relocation from the corn fields of Illinois to the varied landscape of west Michigan.  We welcome Ryan to AWRI and Muskegon.

Welcome Ryan and family!
