Tyler Hoyt defends thesis on perch morphology

Tyler Hoyt successfully defended his Master's thesis on April 5, 2024 titled "Morphological variation of yellow perch inhabiting Lake Michigan and connected waterbodies". His thesis committee included AWRI's Dr. Carl Ruetz along with Dr. Tomas Höök (Purdue University) and Dr. Devin Bloom (Western Michigan University).

Tyler sampled Yellow Perch populations in drowned rivermouth lakes and Lake Michigan and measured their physical characteristics. He found patterns of this morphological variation (e.g., body depth, head shape, eye size) that changed depending on where the fish lived.

After graduating, Tyler will be working for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as an Assistant District Biologist in Northeast Oregon.
