Wetlands Ecosystem Service Values: Erosion Control

Land Use: Wetlands
Ecosystem Service: Erosion Control
Regional Value Estimate: $86-$485 per acre per year
Confidence Level (in estimated value): Low

How was value determined:

  1. The range of values for regional wetlands erosion control was transferred from one peer-reviewed study of vegetated buffers in Monterrey Bay, California (Rein 1999).
  2. The data from this study were adjusted to the West Michigan policy region.

Value estimate limitations:

  1. The values represent the role of riparian buffers and wetlands for streambank stabilization and protection from erosion.
  2. There are several studies that measure the value of wetlands for erosion control through water quality improvements, which integrate several economic values. To single out the value of only wetlands for erosion control from these studies is difficult.

Estimated Wetlands Erosion Control Values

Value was not determined for this land use ecosystem service at the county-level because there were insufficient data to do so.
