Poverty Simulation
Date:
January 21, 2013
Time:
10:00 a.m.
Location:
Pere Marquette, Kirkhof Center
A component of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Poverty Simulation experience will be offered at 10 am and 2 pm.
Hosted by Access of West Michigan, the poverty simulation experience is designed to help participants begin to understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from week to week. It is a simulation, not a game. Participants leave their identities at the door and interact with a community of stories and agencies for four 15-minute weeks. The object is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by low-income people.
A facilitated discussion will follow the simulation.
