Why Do They Respond That Way - Gender-Based Violence & Trauma Impact

The Lakeshore Alliance Against Sexual and Domestic Violence and GVSU Women's Center present the following training:

Tom Cottrell, Vice-President of Counseling Services for YWCA West Center Michigan will lead this introductory session in exploring the impact of psychological trauma on sexual assault and domestic violence victims, how traumatic memories are processed and how decision-making is affected. He will further examine the behavioral manifestations of trauma, including PTSD, self-injury, avoidance and interaction with law enforcement and other helping professionals. Participants will learn steps to take in helping a victim manage the impact of trauma.  This workshop is open to ALL who work with victim/survivors of gender-based violence.  Community members are welcome.
