Recognition and Awards

Each year, at the Women's Commission, Celebration of Women Awards Luncheon, the Women's Center recognize Outstanding Female Students.  For more information on the event and all of the awards given out, check out the Women's Commission website.

2007 Outstanding Female Student Award Recipients

The Outstanding Female Student Award celebrates the diversity of accomplishments of women students at GVSU and encourages women to pursue various pathways to achievement. 

Nomination Forms are due by March 2, 2009.

Financial Support and Scholarships

In addition, the Women's Center wants to support students in their educational pursuits.  Below are two scholarships that may be of interest to students.  If you do not qualify for either scholarship, the Women's Center works with the Office of Financial Aid to connect students to resources.

The Women's Center Non-traditional Student Scholarship

The GVSU Women's Center Non-traditional Student Scholarship Committee will select one or more recipients for this scholarship. The scholarship is designed to benefit non-traditional students with unique pathways to education including child/family responsibilities, re-entry to college after some significant time away, or exceptional life circumstances due to employment or other challenges.

The award, a stipend equivalent to three credit hours of in-state tuition, must be used at GVSU by the end of the semester following the award.

Deadlines are July 31 for fall semester and November 15 for winter semester. Applicants should contact the Women's Center at 331-2748 or by email, womenctr@gvsu.edu to apply. Prior to applying, please be sure that you have filled out your FAFSA application at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Zonta International: Zonta is a women's service club devoted to raising the economic, legal, professional, and political status of women.  Zonta club of Flint wards scholarships each year as one way to advance the status of women in the area.  Among the qualifications for the award, you must be a resident or student in Gennesee County, Michigan.  To find out more, please click here 

Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce ATHENA Scholarship: ATHENA offers scholarship awards to women over the age of 30 who are pursuing higher education.  Since 2000, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber has offered more than $25,000 to deserving women. To learn more, please click here 

The Forum Foundation: The Forum Foundation is one of the gay and lesbian community's oldest 501c3 organizations. Their scholarship is intended to promote a positive gay identity, to encourage continued academic and career progress and to assist in financing higher education and post high school education for LGBT students. To find out more, please click here

2010 Talbots Women's Scholarship:  This scholarship awards women who attend college later in life (specifically women who earned a GED or HS diploma before September 2000).  Talbots values ingenuity and perseverance in its applicants. For more information, please click here.
