Eyes Wide Open

Sexual Assault Peer Educators

To create a campus culture that actively and effectively responds to sexual assault to eradicate it from the GVSU campus, and ultimately society at large.

History- In the 2001-2002 school year Eyes Wide Open was created by a committed group of students with support from the Women's Center.  The student group educates students by dispelling myths related to sexual assault and other forms of violence.

Goals- The primary goals are to teach students about the resources available for survivors of sexual assault, to create a campus culture that prevents assaults from happening, and to provide campus-wide programming to students, as well as faculty and staff.

Becoming a Member- Eyes Wide Open members go through an interview and selection process and receive extensive training on topics related to sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and sexual harassment.  Both men and women are encouraged to become part of the process of educating and raising awareness on these important issues.

Presentations- Presentations given by Eyes Wide Open are interactive and effective.  They are specifically designed for the class or group in which they are being presented and can include same-gender or mixed-gender audiences.  If you are interested in learning more about the group or would like to set up a presentation, please contact the organization at eyes@student.gvsu.edu or contact the Women's Center at 1201 Kirkhof, (616) 331-2748.

Eyes Wide Open provides support for survivors along with education and prevention for the larger campus community.
