Grand Valley State University Women's Center
Intersectionality: A Collection of Diverse Lived Experiences
The Women’s Center journal formerly known as In Her Own Words is being re-launched as an inclusive journal exploring the intersections of identity. This new journal, Intersectionality: A Collection of Diverse Lived Experiences, is a collaboration between the Grand Valley State University Office of Multicultural Affairs, Women’s Center and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center.
We are seeking submissions of poetry, stories and creative non-fiction from the GVSU community--students, faculty and staff--that allow for diverse perspectives to be heard. This journal is designed to provide an opportunity for the campus community to look at the world through multiple dimensions including race, gender, sexual orientation and class status among others. By examining our various identities, we come to a deeper understanding of how they differently situate people in the economic, political and social world.
How to Submit:
Please include a short author’s note at the end of your submission. This can be a sentence or two describing your motivation for writing/submitting the piece(s). Please submit no more than three pieces of your work. Essays, articles, poetry and short fiction are all welcome, although we may not have space to print pieces over 4,000 words. The Intersections editorial panel will determine acceptance.
Submissions are accepted by email only. Please save in a Word document and attach to an email, with “Journal” in the subject line, and forward to firstname.lastname@example.org
