Grand Valley State University Women's Center
Connecting with the Campus
We recognize the importance of offering co-curricular activities and programming to supplement in-class course work. If you are interested in collaborating with the Women's Center, here is a list of programs and opportunities that we offer for faculty, staff, and students across campus.
Service Learning
The Women's Issues Volunteer Corps (WIVC) is a volunteer program that aims to make a difference in the lives of women and girls through volunteer opportunities that pair education with activism.
Volunteer opportunities match the interest of the student with the needs of the community. The Womens Issues Volunteer Corps works with over fifteen area agencies, including the YWCA, Girl Scouts, and the Child and Family Resource Council.
For more information on the WIVC and how your students can get involved, please contact Ashley Nickels at 331-2748 or nickelas@gvsu.edu

Peer Presentations
Pair co-curricular programs with an hour long presentation from a Women's Center Ambassador.
- Domestic and Dating Violence Presentation: The presentation will encourage students to think about the issues surrounding violence against women, including dating violence and stalking, and will promote healthy relationships. This presentation also includes stories from the Silent Witness Project.
- Pay and Workplace Equity Presentation: The presentation looks at the Wage Gap and workplace issues such as sexual harassment and the glass ceiling and the implications for women and families.
- Love Your Body Presentation: The presentations will encourage students to think about society, media influence, body image, and gender socialization.
If you are interested in having a Women's Center Ambassador come to your class, student organization, or residence and present on any of the above topics, including how to get involved with the WIVC, please contact us at 331-2748 or womenctr@gvsu.edu
Please fill out a Presentation Request form and send it back to womenctr@gvsu.edu.
Internship/ Practicums
Internships are available through the Women's Center for credit in multiple disciplines. We are always willing to connect students with projects that are tailored to their interest and/ or program requirements.
- Women's Center Internships: Women's Center internships give students the opportunity to work closely on programs, events, or special projects related to improving the lives of women on campus and in the community. Each semester, the Women's Center accepts three students to work in the Center.
- Women's Community Collaborative: In partnership with Women and Gender Studies, the Women's Center provides a unique internship experience that gives students experience working in an area nonprofit as well as classroom time to discuss topics such as feminist leadership.
For more information on internship/practicum opportunities through the Women's Center, check out our internship page and the WCC page, or contact us at 331-2748 or womenctr@gvsu.edu.
