Special campus event- All WISE are invited to a "HerStory" sponsored by the Women's Center with Dr. Shaily Menon, the Chair of the Biology Dept. 


OCTOBER 17th: Chemistry Campus event- WISE is invited to:  The annual Chem Club "Meet the Faculty" picnic.  The chemsitry department will have pizza and pop for any students who are chem majors or minors or who have an interest in finding out more about chemistry.  The event is Tuesday Oct. 17th at 5pm in Kirkhof, 3rd floor Room 072.

NOVEMBER: "Librarians on the Move".  We'll have two librarians stopping by WISE on Nov. 7th and on Nov. 15 to help you in any library research questions you may have.  Click here for more info: LIBRARY RESEARCH HELP

  • Free Group Tutoring sessions- held each week in the living center:
      • Monday evenings: two sessions- first from  6-7 pm Biology help then from 7-8pm Chemistry study help
      • Wed. eveings 6-7pm, Chemistry Tutoring
      • Thurs. evenings 6-8pm, Math Tutoring

    Friday October 20th: Special Grand Valley Homecoming Weekend event:  Dr. Ann Visser, a GVSU chemistry major alum, returns to campus to give a research talk from 1:00-2:00 in Manitou Hall, room 123.  Following her talk we will have a reception for Ann in the WISE building from 2:30-3:30.  We'll have pizza and some social time to meet this outstanding GVSU graduate.


    Monday October 23rd- our second Book Club Coffeehouse!
    7:00-8:00pm in the Great room.  We will read and discuss the research of Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin, an x-ray crystallographer who solved the structures of penicillin, vitamin B12 and insulin. We will host chemistry professors Mary Karpen and Rachel Powers as they give us a demonstration of these molecular structures. Coffee, cookies and conversation!

  • Wednesday August 23: WISE student field trip: Water Resources Institute (WRI) research vessel boat trip- Grand Haven, MI 12:30-5:30pm  Water Resources Institute
  • Thursday August 24: WISE student campus orientation: 1:00-4:00
    Thursday evening: Transitions program starts: 8:00pm- GVSU Fieldhouse arena
  • Friday August 25: All-campus event: GVSU Convocation Ceremony and community lunch, Transitions program continues Transitions Program
    Wednesday September 6th:     WISE first ICE CREAM SOCIAL for WISE residents, faculty and staff.  A fun event for all in the Great Room of Koeze-Weed.
  • Thursday September 21st: Special Interdisciplinary Lecture on the "Art of Mathematics" by Prof. David Austin.
  • Monday September 25th- We held our first Book Club Coffeehouse from 
    7:00-8:00pm in the Great room.  We discussed the research of Rosalind Franklin, and our impression of women in science fields today, and of course we had coffee and cookies.
