Writing Retreats for Faculty

Faculty writing retreats during COVID-19

For any faculty hoping to use their at-home time to make progress on a paper or project, the Writing Center and SWS Program are planning a virtual writing retreat that corresponds with our normal retreat dates. While there won't be free lunches or M&M's, the collaborative act of setting goals with colleagues and touching base on progress is still a valuable strategy for success. If you would like to know more about virtual writing retreats, please contact Patrick Johnson ([email protected]).

Are you working on a dissertation, book manuscript, article, grant application, or other writing project that would benefit from five days of hard work this summer? Do you need a quiet space in which to write, gain the support of colleagues who are also writing, and receive feedback to your work?

If you'd like to make a great deal of progress on a writing project, register for one of the Faculty/Staff Writing Retreats sponsored by the Fred Meijer Center for Writing.

In addition to having your own writing space, you may request responses to your writing and help with specific writing-related issues.

Details:
Patrick Johnson, Director of the Fred Meijer Center for Writing, & Jerry Stinnett, Director of Writing Across the Curriculum, will facilitate the retreat, which runs from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day.

The Center will provide a laptop computer for your use, as well as writing resources and goal-setting activities to keep you focused.

The Center will ensure you're well nourished and alert by providing snacks and drinks throughout the day and lunch at noon.

Participants are expected to spend at least seven hours per day on writing or writing-related activities and join other participants for lunch each day.

Registration Information:
Please submit your registration form by April 20 (for summer retreats). Please note that while faculty working on dissertations will be given first priority in registering for the retreat, there will likely be plenty of room available to faculty and staff working on other projects.
